“Mental pain is less dramatic than physical pain, but it is more common and also harder to bear” - C.S Lewis
We don’t discuss about it as much as we talk about different diseases, but you will be stunned to know that over 300 million people living in this world is facing the misery of depression. A report by WHO says that at least 6.5% of the Indian population is suffering from mental health issues. Even though there are various measures and treatments, India is facing an extreme shortage of mental health workers like psychiatrists, psychologists and doctors.
I was curious why children didn’t have the language to communicate or express themselves and also if they possessed that ability, what made them stop from communicating their feelings
At the age of 28, with the assistance and guidance of therapists, I could build up a better understanding of myself. I had wondered that if I had a way for getting counselling in my childhood, I would have requested for help when I badly needed it or I would have been more conscious and would have been in a better position to express myself.
I have perceived that, half of the mental health conditions of a person starts from his/her childhood and most of these cases are left untreated. It tends to be challenging to diagnose depression in children as they tend to show anger, headaches or irritability. The cases which are undetected and untreated leads to depression in people which unfortunately leads to severe health disorders and even suicides.
Due to all these factors, I researched various methods of therapies that could aid children in and outside schools to combat depression and sustain a mentally healthy lifestyle.
‘Minds of Wisdom’ was launched in collaboration with a psychologist. MOW envisions a world in which, both children and adults are emotionally intelligent, resilient and self-aware. It encourages a place where welfare and mental health are vital factors of every human being.
Minds of wisdom is the foremost programme which has been launched by the parent organisation Sacred Foundation. MOW has been developed in order to address depression, anxiety and stress in India. Its objective is to create economical mental health care programmes for low-income groups as well as educational institutions.
MOW guides teachers and institutions to foster a classroom culture, which promotes a broad understanding of oneself from a very early age and serve as a secure place for children, so that they can be receptive and express their feelings.
The curriculum of MOW has been inspired and influenced from the inputs of Emotional Intelligence, Mindfulness to well-being and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) which provides teachers and students with means of becoming more emotionally intelligent, more aware and develop values to diagnose their potential, to grow healthier mentally and emotionally.
MOW targets to offer 20 sessions as an after-school programme in low income groups to kids falling under the age group of 6-19 years. Also, follow-up sessions will be provided through a tech platform.

How do we get there

Your support in the form of love and funds, will enable MOW to reach to more children and expand to more locations.
The funds that we receive will be utilised to expand MOWs strategies to more locations aiming the low-income communities of Madhya Pradesh in the first quarter of 2020. We will also be working to create a dynamic training module for parents and teachers with the help of the funds that you provide.

How can you help

Following are the plans that are available for funding:
  • Fund a child - ₹2000
  • Fund a group workshop (10-20 children) - ₹7500
  • Fund a classroom (20-25 children) - ₹17500
  • It would be of great help if you show your support by sharing this on Twitter, Facebook, WhatsApp etc so that more people can know about this venture and show support for the same.
