Digestive Issues Found As One of the Prominent Symptoms for COVID-19 Patients
As per the study done by researchers, diarrhoea is one of the prominent symptoms found in almost half the number of patients who were Corona positive from the total positive cases from the Hubei province of Wuhan. Researchers from the Wuhan Medical Treatment Expert Group for Covid-19 conducted the study and was published in The American Journal of Gastroenterology. According to their study half of the COVID-19 patients had digestive issues such as anorexia and diarrhoea as a symptom.
The researchers also mentioned about the high need for doctors to consider digestive issues as a COVID-19 symptom rather than waiting for the potentially risky patients to show respiratory issues. According to the researchers, medical data of 204 patients were analysed for the study and their average age was 54.9 years and they found that 48.5% people who were admitted was having digestive issues as a major problem.
Out of the people who were having digestive issues, 83.8% people were having anorexia, 29.3% with diarrhoea and 0.4% patients were having abdominal pain. As per the data given by researchers, digestive issues were seen as more evident in patients when the severity of their infection became worser.
