After Coronavirus, Now It id Hantavirus in China


A report in Global Times said that, when the world is struggling to find a cure for the deadly coronavirus, which was first diagnosed in Wuhan, China and took the lives of more than 19,900 people, another virus termed as Hantavirus was identified in China. In the Yunnan province of China, a person died in a moving bus due to the new Hantavirus. Due to this, all the people who travelled with him in that bus was tested for the virus.
Hantavirus is a type of virus which is transmitted to people when they get in contact with rodents. It can get into the body of the person through the rodent’s urine, their droppings or if the person inhales the virus particles in locations were there are a lot of rodent droppings.
The Center for Disease Control says that an infection with the hantavirus can lead to hantavirus disease in people. “New World” hantavirus is termed for hantaviruses in America and this may cause Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome (HPS). The other set of hantaviruses are termed as “Old World” hantaviruses which are mainly found in Asia and Europe and it is said to cause hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS).
Currently there is no vaccine available for this infection. The symptoms of this virus include red eyes, fever, dizziness, shortness of breath and nausea. It is a contagious disease that can be transmitted via air or direct contact. The mortality rate of hantavirus ranges from 5% to 36%.
When the world is trying to combat the spread of pandemic coronavirus, hantavirus has come to China. The number of people tested positive for Coronavirus has crossed 4,00,000 and still there is no vaccination available for this deadly virus.
