Google Duo Introduces New Features Which Include Permitting 12 Users On A Video Call


Due to the extension of the lockdown measures in majority of the countries to curb the transmission of Covid-19, the video-calling apps are in high usage among people in order to discuss work related things, conduct online classes and also to meet loved ones virtually. A blog post by Google mentioned that Duo has upped its game by adding up the participant limit in a video call to a number of 12 and is more likely to increase the capacity. It also mentioned that, Duo has witnessed 10 million new sign-ups in the last few weeks amid the lockdown.

Duo group Product Manager, Dave Citron has rolled out four new features for the betterment of user experience. The features are listed below:
  1. Group size increased to 12 participants – Citron mentioned that the number of group calls has been surged 8 times in the last 4 weeks. The recent development in Duo is that 12 members can participate in a video-call. Initially, only 8 people could participate at a time.
  2. AR effects for messages that are customized – Duo has enabled its users to send personalized messages along with Augmented Reality effects. The users can send a customized video or photo, when they are not able to do video-call. “I miss you” and “I am thinking of you” are the recent messages that comes with AR effect.
  3. New video-codec technology that improves the quality of calls – Google is currently seen working on uninterrupted high-quality video calling and it will roll out its new codec technology in the next week to improvise the quality. Duo is already using Artificial Intelligence technology for audio calls.
  4. Taking photos during calls – many people are seen sharing in their social media profiles, the photos that have been clicked during video calls and this is the new feature rolled out by Google. The photos will be automatically saved in the gallery of the user soon after clicking it.
